YORK 50+ FESTIVAL 2011

INFORMATION FAIR
Guildhall, Thursday 8 September
10 am - 4 pm

PARTICIPANTS & DESCRIPTIONS & PHOTOS

The York 50+ Information Fair on Thursday 8 September launched this year's 50+ Festival with tremendous enthusiasm. Balloons found their way up pillars to bob through the day and after the event ended up in the hands of passing children and at St Sampson's!

The Lord Mayor, who attended with the Sheriff and his Lady, opened the Fair at 10 am and 30 stands offering a wide variety of information and advice, fair trade goods and tasters were soon busy with customers. The York Older People's Assembly ran a very successful tombola with the shout of "winner!" echoing to the rafters. Refreshments were much appreciated as were the lemon tarts from Wiltshire Farm Foods.

Advice was given on housing, energy saving, legal issues, telecare, leisure pursuits, fitness and personal problems. There were clubs to join and hearing dogs for deaf people to stroke, advice from various organisations working with older people and plenty of gadgets to try….the sun shone after a spot of drizzle in the morning and a trio of volunteers with flyers brought the crowds in.

We had a fine time and look forward to welcoming you to our 50+ Information Fair next year.
